Hi!  My name is Michelle Larson.  I am a 2nd grade teacher at Winner Elementary School.  I am a member of the Elementary Olweus Bullying Prevention Coordinating Committee.  I am also the South Dakota Counts Math Teacher Leader for Winner Elementary, and I am in the process of taking a LOT of math classes!! 

 

Past Experience

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern State University (Go Wolves!!) in May of 2002 with a major in Elementary Education and minors in Special Education and Psychology.  I am starting my 8th year of teaching.  All of my years have been spent in the Winner School District. I have also taught lower grades (K-3) at  Hamill and Millboro Rural Schools (Winner School District), third grade at Winner Elementary, and fourth grade at Warner Elementary during my student teaching.

Home and Family
 

I call Mitchell , South Dakota, "home", as I am a 1998 graduate of MHS.  Mitchell is home to the Corn Palace and the mighty Kernels (yes, the mascot is corn!).  I was born in Conrad, Montana.  My family also lived in Harlowton and Havre before moving to Nancy, Kentucky, in 1987.  In 1991, my family returned to the Midwest with moves to Langford (South Dakota), Webster, and eventually Mitchell.

I am very close to my family.  Two of my sisters are also in the education field.  Jennifer is a 1st grade teacher at Sanborn Central.   Monica moved to Winner last year and now teaches Kindergarten.  My mom, Nancy, is a florist.  She and my step-dad, Eddie, live on a dairy farm in Northeastern South Dakota.  My brother-in-law, Wes, my niece, Rhiannon, and my nephew, Raydon, are also a huge part of my family.  My cat, Fattie, is my baby!  

 
Free Time and Favorites

In my free time, when I'm not busy with school or spending time with my family, I enjoy walking, reading and traveling.  I am a HUGE UK Wildcats fan!!  One day I hope to attend  a University of Kentucky Wildcat basketball game in Rupp Arena!!  I love a variety of music and have had the opportunity to attend many concerts in the past few years.  My other favorites include the color yellow, pizza, Sunkist, and Dancing With the Stars.
