Welcome to Miss Larson's 2009-2010 Classroom Tour!

The pictures on this page were taken by Miss Larson in August 2009.  Please take your time to explore our classroom.  Click on the links for more information.  Enjoy!!

The desks are grouped into pods of four students so that students may learn from and work with one another for partner or group activities.  Each pod also contains a file box that holds the group's folders and other supplies.

Our classroom birthday chart allows us to graph each student's birthday.  The door also contains our Lost Tooth graph, lunch menu, and morning routine chart.

The Classroom Tracker chart keeps track of our behavior and our lunch count.

This bulletin board is home to our classroom rules and expectations, The board also contains information about our school-wide bullying prevention program, conflict resolution strategies, and Character Counts pillars.

This chart helps us keep track of our literacy centers. Our centers include comprehension, Phonics, Spelling and Words, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Free Choice.  Students also spend time at the teaching table to participate in a reading group during center time.

The centers shelf contains boxes for our literacy centers.  The spelling bucket activities are also located here.

We add words to the word wall each week as we focus on a word pattern.  These words are usually high frequency words.

This area is home to both science and social studies activities.  This area is also used as an extra work space during art or other class activities.  Our coat hooks are also located at the back of the room.

The Math Center contains many math manipulatives and other resources to help refine our math skills.  Children will often use the various tools in small groups to practice specific math skills.

The Reading Center is by far the largest center in the room.  It contains many books organized by level, topic, or genre. Students are able to choose books from leveled book baskets so as to aide students in choosing just-right books.  The rugs and chairs are used for book nooks during our reading workshop time.

The Book Pockets are used to keep our Reading Workshop books and folders.  We also keep any books checked out from the classroom library here.

These charts are used during Reading Workshop.  They help us track our reading and our book nook spots.

This area is the center of our daily routines and activities.

Every morning, the morning math meeting is held in the front of the room.  Here we work on calendar activities, counting, patterns, graphing, and map skills  During the day, we also use this space for read alouds, writing, and other group activities.

Our Smart Board enables us to use interactive teaching tools in a variety of curriculum areas.  We can also just write on our Smart Board (like a white board).

The stop-light is a classroom favorite.  It tracks the noise level of our classroom!

This bulletin board displays the classroom helpers, daily schedule, and star kid of the week.

The teaching table is located next to Miss Larson's desk.  It is used for guided reading and small group activities.

This cart is part of our listening center.  Our Listening Center has books on tape, poetry, music, and sounds for the children to listen to.  The scanner on the top shelf  is used for Accelerated Math.

Our content word wall is located on one of our pocket chart stands.  It is used to display our content words from language arts, science, social studies, or math.

The Writing Area is one of the larger areas in our classroom.  It contains two computers and supplies used to publish the work of the young authors in our room.  The Writing Workshop pocket chart helps students work through the various stages of the writing process.

These are the student mailboxes.  They are located on the back of the closet door.  We put all of our papers to go home in the pockets and collect them at the end of the week.

We say this classroom pledge everyday.  It helps us remember to try our bests to be respectful and responsible in our classroom.
